Five Valleys had helped during my triathlon days with other niggles so I gave them a call. I was seen by Geoff Twinning. Having been an athlete at the highest levels and having no shortage of injuries himself, he got to work. We had lots of start stops with the ankle not cooperating, but Geoff persevered and through good bedside manner and a series of stretches and taping, we started to make progress. My aim in May 2019 was to try and run a 17:59min 5km by Christmas. I ran three times a week and did my prescribed stretching. On 13 August I ran a 17:56mins and three weeks later I ran a 17:35mins (9 secs off my PB set 7 years ago). All a good four months ahead of my do-it-by-Xmas goal! I am now running pain free. With the record - and if I empty the tank - a sub 17mins now a possibility, I can only thank the amazing Geoff, Five Valleys Physio, and my running partner Barnabas (my 1 year old English Spaniel) for helping me prove that while I am in my 40s, my best running times may yet be ahead of me!"
