GLOUCESTERSHIRE'S LEADING PHYSIOTHERAPY GROUP

Our Services

Clinical Services from 5 Valleys Physio

We offer a wide range of services for a 'One Stop' approach to your healthcare.
Soft tissue correction, manual techniques and strength and conditioning are all part of fully restoring an injured tissue or joint. In addition, our MSK Diagnostic Clinic and Shockwave services are also now available.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists are medically-trained experts in the field of musculo-skeletal injuries, and are governed by the same professional standards as doctors and consultants.

Physiotherapy includes a diverse range of skills, from specialisms within neurology and stroke rehabilitation, to sports injuries, general muscle and joint issues, and from children to the elderly.
These issues may have come about through injury, illness or disability, and at 5 Valleys Physio we use a range of methods to restore joint movement, to lengthen tight muscles, and to strengthen areas of weakness, all of which may be contributing to a painful complaint.

Our skills include manipulation, muscle strengthening exercises, education and advice, acupuncture and sports massage.

However, the most important aspect of being a Physiotherapist is the ability to correctly diagnose the complaint and then ensure the correct management of the problem, tailored to the individual.

MSK Diagnostic Clinic with Geoff Twinning

Our MSK Diagnostic Clinic incorporates point of care diagnostic ultrasound to form a comprehensive injury assessment by Specialist Physiotherapist, Geoff Twinning.

Diagnostic ultrasound imagery helps to clearly identify injury severity and location without the need for MRI in many cases. Geoff has over 22 years of treating elite sport and the general population, and over 14 years of ultrasound scanning experience.
The MSK Diagnostic service differs from our standard physiotherapy assessment as diagnostic ultrasound scanning is performed as an integrated assessment tool, allowing a much more accurate diagnosis of the injury site and providing the ability to target rehabilitation and treatment more effectively.

For many tendinopathies, diagnostic ultrasound scanning will often also avoid the expense and distress of an MRI scan.

Focused Shockwave Therapy

Radial and Focused Shockwave
Shockwave therapy can be split into two: Radial and Focused.

Focused shockwave comprises industry-leading technology to treat muscle, bone and tendon injuries. It is endorsed by The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), and has huge benefits over conservative treatment alone.

Some of the benefits include tendon regeneration, pain modulation and the breakdown of calcific deposits.
Shockwave therapy stimulates the cells that generate soft tissue and bone.

It stimulates stem cell production and can reduce scarring, reduce healing times, and promote tissue regeneration.

It will work on muscle, tendons, ligaments and also for regeneration of bone tissue.

Injection Therapy

Corticosteroid VS Hyaluronic Acid
Injection therapy normally involves injecting the target area with a steroid and local anaesthetic. Here at 5 Valleys Physio, we offer injection therapy with either Corticosteroid or Hyaluronic Acid.

Injection therapy is primarily used to reduce acute pain, but it can also reduce a chronically-inflamed structure that may not be responding to treatment.
An initial consultation is required to assess the client's suitability and their drug history before booking an injection.

Geoff Twinning is our in-house Consultant Physiotherapist and we generally recommend a diagnostic ultrasound scan as part of the assessment.

Sports Injury Management

We offer gold standard injury management and rehabilitation to get you back to where you want to be.

Our team of physiotherapists are second to none. We have Olympic Team Physiotherapists who have worked with multiple Team GB athletes and squads. They cover a diverse group of sports and sports injury management and will tailor a bespoke sports injury management and rehabilitation programme to suit your needs and guide you back to full fitness.
Our well-equipped gym and studio are perfect places to rehabilitate. We offer specific machines to load joints and muscles in a way that will speed up your return to your sport.

Without the proper rehabilitation, it is almost certain you will re-injure or simply never return to the same level.

Our sports screening is another way to 'MOT' your body. You will discover what is tight, restricted, weak or over-active. This understanding will ensure you perform at your best as well as keep you from injury in the future.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is used to complement physiotherapy treatment in assisting with pain relief. It also aides in the restoration of joint mobility and function. Additional benefits include headache management and nerve pain relief.

All of our Clinicians who perform acupuncture as part of their treatment hold a post graduate certificate in the speciality. They are also registered with the Association of Acupuncture for Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP), or hold a Dry Needling Certificate.

Sports Therapy

Our sports therapy service is made up of trained clinicians who specialise in peripheral joint and muscle injury, as well as Sports Massage and Dry Needling.

Our Sports Therapists provide an excellent adjunct to Physiotherapy and Osteopathy in helping us to provide a comprehensive service. All of our therapists are licensed and governed by the Society of Sports Therapists (SST).

Sports Massage

Our sports massage service is a great way to relieve muscle tension, aid tissue recovery from day-to-day stress, as well as sports recovery. However, if you have an actual injury, please consult one of our Physiotherapists, Sports Therapists or Osteopaths.

Sports massage is used as a recovery technique or maintenance of an existing complaint. It involves stretching, lengthening and stimulating different types of tissue to restore and repair areas of dysfunction.

Strength and Conditioning

A strength and conditioning coach is a fitness professional who develops and uses exercise prescriptions specifically to improve performance in athletic competition. Strength and conditioning coaches have two primary goals:
Enhance performance by improving speed, strength and power through teaching proper lifting techniques, supervising, motivating and assessing before and after the programme.
Reduce injuries by designing regimes to strengthen body parts prone to injury in particular sports.

MRI Scan Referrals

As Professional Healthcare Providers, we have the ability to refer clients for self funded MRI Scans, CT Scans and Diagnostic Ultrasound Scans.

Your therapist can refer you for an investigation appropriate to your condition. This will only be done if your therapist deems it appropriate, rather than simply at the request of the client. We will always discuss the reasoning behind why we may ask for a scan, or similarly, if we feel it is not necessary.

Running Clinic

Our running clinic offers personal technical assessment with a tailored improvement programme so your running capabilities and performance can grow from strength to strength.

Everyone has a unique running technique, which can be affected by many factors, including present and past injuries.
The 5 Valleys Physio running clinic uses two comprehensive diagnostic assessments to identify inefficient or incorrect movement patterns:
Biomechanical Video Analysis
Functional Movement Analysis

These help us understand why injuries have occurred and how our client's body has compensated for them.

We can also identify mistakes caused by imbalances and poor technique, which lead to poor performance.

Arthrosamid® Treatment

Arthrosamid® is a cutting-edge injectable hydrogel that delivers long-lasting proven pain relief for knee osteoarthritis - improving your quality for life without surgery. Arthrosamid® is singularly injected into your knee's synovial cavity where it distributes within the synovial fluid and begins to stick to and mash with the synovial tissue.
