Diagnostic Ultrasound

Diagnostic ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or Sonography, involves exposing part of the body to high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. These image can allow us to assess the integrity of the tissue being seen and its surrounding structures. We typically use this for scanning muscle injuries as well as some bony injuries

This imaging technique is a non-invasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.

Ultrasound images of the musculoskeletal system provide pictures of muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and soft tissue throughout the body.

Geoff Twinning has developed his skills in the area of sonography to help assist with the diagnosis of soft tissue injuries.

Areas commonly investigated with Ultrasound scanning:

  • Achilles injuries
  • Tennis elbow
  • Golfers elbow
  • Muscle strains
  • Ligament sprains and ruptures

This service is at he discretion of the therapist and will only be performed if clinically justified.  In many cases our normal assessment skills provide the information we require to undertake treatment.

Diagnostic Ultrasound is included, where appropriate, in any physiotherapy treatment with Mr Geoff Twinning.  Our clinical team can refer directly for a scan if treatment if your treatment is not progressing as planned.  Scanning an injured tissue really helps to analyse the severity of any lesion at the onset but also through its recovery

Clients About Us

I've been very happy with the treatment and service received from Five Valleys Physio. I'd used the same physiotherapist near work in Bristol for years and was worried about changing. Having now done so, the reputation of Five Valleys Physio from friends is well deserved and I'll definitely be back when I break myself again!
